Upcoming implementation of new parking rules that
will prioritize residents of busy sections of street

Outremont Mayor Laurent Desbois announced in June that the former sectors
designated SRRR (Stationnement sur Rues Réservées aux Résidents, or
residents-only street parking), that were in effect before 2019, would be gradually
re-established in the borough in order to provide reserved parking for the
exclusive use of residents of these sectors.

Inspired directly by the public consultation held in early 2020, these new rules
take citizens' concerns into account and aim to eliminate most of the irritants of
the previous parking reform, while truly prioritizing sticker holders.

A first phase is already being implemented in the Laurier Avenue area, which
covers all of the former Sector 2. Full application will take place in September
and October 2022.
By the fall of 2023, the Borough will implement changes by groups of street
sections in the remaining former SRRR sectors (1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 142 and 152).

Residents-only zones
The elimination of residents-only parking zones is causing significant problems
for many residents living in high-traffic areas. The universal parking sticker (Zone
1) introduced in the 2019 revamp currently allows a pool of some 4,000 permit
holders (residents of other Outremont areas and non-residents) to park their
vehicles on a longer-term basis on any high-traffic section of street.

In order to give precedence to residents of high-traffic areas, the former SRRR
areas could be re-established, if necessary, following analyses conducted in
collaboration with residents. Zones could be reserved solely for residents, with or
without the possibility for other motorists to park for free for two hours.

Fees and other measures
Fees for parking stickers on residential streets remain unchanged, but a new,
lower-cost fee structure will be developed for employees of businesses and
institutions located in the borough.
